MALARGUE PLANETARIUM COMPLEX
FIRST DIGITAL FIXED PLANETARIUM IN ARGENTINA
This projected was started during the former mayor of Malargue,
today governor of the province and is a reality today. In 1999,
scientst from the “Pierre Auger” Observatory offered to donate to
the Malargue Municipality the equipment necessary to set up an
observatory, but the local political opposition turned down the
offer as they refused to approve the use of funds needed for
construction of the building and, therefore wasting the chance that
was being offered.
During the tenure of the next mayor, Professor Raúl Rodrígez, the
possibility of construction is re-floated and the people manifest
their support as it is considered the concretion of this project
would be good for the future of the town. The local council finally
approved the financial resources needed in the yearly budget so as
to construct the building and buy the equipment for a professional
fixed planetarium.
Malargue thus houses the only Cosmic Rays Observatory in the world,
“Pierre Auger”, an international experiment for the study of Cosmic
Rays of the most Elevated Energies. More than seventeen countries
participate of the experiment with 350 scientists from over 80
institutions and becoming a one of the most important tourist
attractions in Argentina.

With the creation of the Malargue Planetarium the region
incorporated a new, attractive tourist product in the field of
science and attracts more visitors to the district. Besides the
tourist advantage, the project becomes a fundamental pillar for
educational and cultural purposes in Malargue. |

The complex covers one and a half hectares and the building is made
up of four buildings covering 1,600 square metres and they were
built within a matrix of radial generation.
The outer spaces form pedestrian paths with dry, green spaces
organized in such a way that they stimulate visitors meetings and
visits to particular components of the complex such as sundials,
fountains and the surrounding nature.

If one enters the building through the North sector, there is a
parking lot and the Administration where tourists and visitors to
the Malargue Complex Planetarium in general are received. Here is
